A 55-inch opening sits at the upper end of the Crafted Gates fit range, so accurate measurement matters. Do not order based on a rough wall-to-wall estimate.
Measure at the actual mounting points
Measure the span where the gate will attach. Baseboards, trim, posts and offsets can make this measurement different from the visible opening.
Know the specified range
Crafted Gates fit openings from 27.6 to 55 inches wide and are 33 inches tall. If your actual mounting span exceeds 55 inches, use a product designed for the larger opening rather than stretching or modifying the gate.
Check alignment
Width is not the only variable. Two surfaces may be 55 inches apart but still create an incompatible installation if they are offset, angled or otherwise outside the product instructions.
