Hallways are high-traffic spaces, so a baby gate has to work both as a barrier and as part of the circulation path. The biggest design decision is often retractable versus rigid walk-through.
Rigid walk-through gates
A hinged panel creates a familiar door-like opening, but the frame and door remain in the hallway even when the barrier is not actively needed.
Retractable gates
A retractable fabric barrier rolls to the side when open, helping restore a clear passage and reduce visual clutter.
Measure the hallway opening

Choose based on daily traffic
Think about how often adults, children and pets pass through the opening and whether a rigid panel would interfere with furniture movement or the normal path.
